Narcotrafficking Cases Unveiled in Algeciras

Investigations reveal deep connections between organized crime and drug trafficking in Algeciras, with significant sums of money tied to narco operations and corruption amongst officials.

According to investigations, mafia plots practically control the entire drug distribution process, from purchase channels to the destination point. In an Ecuadorian port, violence reaches alarming levels, making it difficult to combat drug trafficking. Experts consulted by ABC point out that it is not uncommon to resort to hitmen or threats to protect shipments.

Abadix Fruits, a Spanish importer, has been placed under investigation by the National Court after it was discovered that it was hiding cocaine in fruit containers from Ecuador. Prior to the interception of 13 tons of drugs in Algeciras, the same criminal organization had already carried out similar shipments using the same method.

The alleged drug trafficking network, which involved former UDEF chief Óscar Sánchez Gil, has raised suspicions about the possible existence of other drug shipments hidden in a similar manner. The volume of seized cocaine and the impunity with which the group operated indicate a secure and well-established modus operandi.

Authorities continue to investigate the magnitude of the shipments made through this method and the possible connections of Sánchez Gil. Additionally, connections have been revealed with the importation of large quantities of fruit from Ecuador to a Spanish company, Abadix Fruits, whose leaders are still fugitives.

The diligence in the investigations has also uncovered the complex money laundering maneuvers carried out by Sánchez Gil, who invested millions in cryptocurrencies and laundered significant sums of money over several years. The drug network, despite seizures and arrests, has shown a persistent ability to operate and evade justice.

All of this highlights the complexity and extent of criminal activities related to drug trafficking, as well as the need for closer international cooperation to effectively combat these criminal organizations.
