UEFA has implemented changes for this edition of the Champions League, where 36 teams will participate in a league stage. In this phase, the teams will play eight different matches, half at home and the other half as visitors. In the end, the top eight will qualify directly for the Round of 16, while the teams ranked ninth to twenty-fourth will compete in a playoff round to determine the last eight qualifiers.
Teams finishing in 25th place or lower will be eliminated without the possibility of playing in the Europa League.
