Barcelona Hires Sleep Specialist to Boost Player Performance

The Spanish football club FC Barcelona has signed a contract with sleep specialist Anna West to join the coaching staff of German manager Hansi Flick. Her role is to help players enhance their athletic performance by improving sleep quality. Catalan newspaper 'Sport' reported on Sunday that West, who previously worked with Arsenal and AC Milan, will be responsible for designing personalized sleep schedules for each player to ensure restful and quality sleep, thereby improving on-field performance. West will focus on helping players manage stress, improve sleep quality, and make the most of rest periods for recovery, especially with the pressure of consecutive matches. Typically, Barcelona plays at 9:00 PM local time, which forces players to sleep late and disrupts their usual routine. This is why Anna was hired. Brazilian player Raphinha revealed a few days ago that his young teammate, star player Lamine Yamal, is often tired because he stays up late on his mobile phone in the early hours, while his teammate defender Pau Cubarsí sleeps ten hours a day to recover.
