Barcelona offers Lewandowski new contract

Spanish football club FC Barcelona has offered Polish striker Robert Lewandowski a contract extension, which expires at the end of the current season. This was reported by the Spanish newspaper 'Sport' on Sunday. The future of the 37-year-old Pole is currently unclear. He has lost his starting position to Ferran Torres for most of the season. However, in recent weeks, manager Hansi Flick has given him the opportunity to start in order to motivate him to regain his form. Nevertheless, Barcelona plans to sign a new striker in the upcoming transfer window. According to the report, the club has offered Lewandowski a new contract that includes cutting his salary in half, with several variables that could significantly increase the total salary. Barcelona president Joan Laporta has publicly stated his desire to keep the veteran striker. It appears that Barcelona aims to get rid of Ferran Torres this summer if Lewandowski stays, as the club does not see the possibility of having three forwards with the same role in the squad. Therefore, Lewandowski also wants to play an important role in the team even if a new star joins. Polish journalist Janusz Michalik, citing Chicago Fire head coach Gregg Berhalter, reported that he believes Lewandowski will stay at Barcelona next season and that it is a priority for him, despite receiving several offers, one of which came from Chicago Fire.
