The Vargas Llosa Chair has started the call for entries for the sixth edition of the Mario Vargas Llosa Biennial Novel Prize, which will take place in Spain for the first time in 2025. The city of Cáceres, in Extremadura, will host this important literary competition, aimed at highlighting the best novels originally written in Spanish.
The maximum deadline for submitting works is May 15, 2025, and the award ceremony will be part of the VI Biennial Novel Prize Mario Vargas Llosa, scheduled from October 22 to 25, 2025. The prize, which is endowed with $100,000, aims to promote literature in the Spanish language globally.
To participate, interested parties must send seven physical copies of their works to the following address: Calle de Agastia 80, Madrid, CP: 28043, offices of Squirrel Media. The novels submitted must have been published between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2024.
The prize is focused on fiction works, excluding essays, short stories, memoirs, history, criticism, graphic novels, comics, and children's literature. Among the additional rules, it is highlighted that works translated into Spanish, previously awarded novels, and individuals linked to the Vargas Llosa Chair cannot participate.
The prize jury will select a list of six finalists that will be announced prior to the award decision. The Vargas Llosa Chair seeks not only to recognize renowned authors but also to discover new voices and position their works on the international literary stage. This prize represents a unique opportunity for writers looking to project their novels globally.
