Extraordinary Congress of Junts in Calella

The extraordinary congress of Junts has begun in Calella with Carles Puigdemont as the new president. The membership of Demòcrates also approved joining the party, showing unity in their approach to independence. Borràs, the outgoing president, reflected on Puigdemont's leadership and the current situation of independence in Catalonia.

On Friday, the extraordinary congress of Junts began in Belgium, with Carles Puigdemont as president. Laura Borràs, the outgoing president, highlighted the political coherence that has driven her more than personal issues. The vote to confirm Puigdemont as president was a necessary procedure.

The congress also featured the participation of Jordi Turull, who will continue as secretary general. Other prominent figures such as Josep Rull, Xavier Trias, Josep Lluís Cleries, Marc Buch, and Josep Maria Cruset spoke on the first day of the event. On the other hand, Demòcrates approved merging with Junts, validating a confluence agreement signed by Antoni Castellà and Turull.

Laura Borràs accused the State of repressing her, referring to a corruption conviction that disqualified her from her public position. She acknowledged the abnormal situation the party has been experiencing since 2022 and stated that Puigdemont's leadership unifies Junts. Borràs stepped down from the presidency after two years and expressed her determination to work within the party's project.

Turull presented and achieved unanimous approval of his management report. The majority of Demòcrates members opted to merge with Junts, ensuring a new scenario for the party leadership, including new leaders and a voting process through closed lists. Despite the challenges of independence, Borràs and Turull demonstrated their commitment to the struggle for the independence of Spain.
