The president of CD Coslada shared with ABC that he received a call from the coach of the rival team, with whom he maintains a friendship, informing him that the Police had taken the club's coach. The arrested individual, a resident of Alcalá de Henares, had only been at the club for half a season and had to present a certificate issued by the Ministry of Justice confirming the lack of sexual criminal records, a mandatory requirement since 2016 for those working with minors.
After learning the news, the club decided to be cautious and gather all available information. A second coach had to take charge to direct the players, aged 14 and 15, who had been trained by the arrested individual since September. The arrested coach had an arrest warrant for alleged sexual abuse of minors, which led the police to investigate his whereabouts.
The club president mentioned that they had been looking for a second coach due to the arrested individual's refusal to accept the initially selected one. After taking the necessary measures, the coach was expelled from the club. Although there were no prior complaints about his performance, an internal investigation has been initiated at the club to clarify what happened.
At 39 years old, Francisco Javier U. P., of Venezuelan origin and a naturalized Spanish citizen, has coached several grassroots football teams in the Community of Madrid. The club issued a statement expressing its total rejection of any conduct that threatens sexual integrity, especially towards minors, and confirmed that they had the required certificate of sexual offenses before the arrested individual's incorporation.
CD Coslada announced the opening of an internal investigation to better understand the situation, despite the fact that the investigated acts did not occur within the club. The president stated that the families of the players were informed, although he did not know the reasons for the coach's arrest.
The arrested individual was found on the club's premises minutes before a match, and the club recalled that in the past they had faced similar situations, acknowledging the seriousness of these incidents. In a statement shared in the afternoon on their social media, CD Coslada addressed the issue.
