Progress in the Restoration of the Altarpiece in Córdoba

The Brotherhood Amor de Córdoba has completed the carpentry phase in the restoration of its altarpiece. Niches have been created and plans are underway to beautify the sacred space.

The Brotherhood of Love has completed the carpentry phase of its altarpiece, allowing for some significant changes to be seen. In particular, the bottom part of the altarpiece was expanded, and two niches were constructed in the upper area, as noted by Rocío Arranz, the senior sister of the brotherhood, in remarks to ABC.

Gradually, the following stages of the project will be carried out, including the carving, gilding of the chapel, and incorporation of some paintings. In the summer of 2022, the bases for the chapel of the Lord of Silence and Our Lady of the Incarnation were unveiled, work carried out by the Córdoba artist José Antonio Cabello.

The bases were completed in two phases: first, they were constructed in carpentry, and then a reliquary was added. Currently, Our Father Jesus of Silence and Our Lady of the Incarnation are already located in the altarpiece of their chapel in the parish of Jesus Divine Worker.

This milestone marks the beginning of a project aimed at enhancing the solemnity of this sacred space. It is noteworthy that the bases contain significant materials, such as splinters from the image of the Lord and stones from the Garden of the Annunciation that are part of the image of the Virgin of the Incarnation.

On the other hand, the gilding of the Lord of Silence's float has been commissioned to the artist José Antonio Cabello, successor of the Cádiz gilder Felisa García, who carried out previous gilding and polychromy work in the different moldings of the bases, using a clearly baroque decorative style. Additionally, during the summer, an initial preparation phase of the site took place, which included restoration work in the chapel, wall repair, and painting work.
