In the worst years of terrorism in the Basque Country, the presence of bodyguards became common and necessary to protect many people. Among them, two protagonists of this story unexpectedly fell in love. Accompanied during workdays, free time, walks, and parties, the professional relationship between protector and protected evolved into an inevitable personal bond.
"It was a strictly professional relationship, but it was inevitable that some kind of bond would develop," she says. This change led them to dance together, exchange kisses, and ultimately get married. With more bodyguards due to the increase in protected councilors, situations arose where their presence was constant, sharing intimate and family moments.
At times, the relationships between bodyguards and those they protected transformed into lasting friendships. One of the bodyguards recounts calling his boss to inform him that he had kissed the person he was protecting. This unexpected turn affected his work performance, but it also generated a feeling of deep gratitude and friendship.
The podcast narrates stories ranging from the protection of politicians, judges, and journalists to cases of protection for ordinary citizens.
