A pilgrimage in commemoration of the disappearance of a village from Zamora 58 years ago took place this Sunday at the foot of the Almendra reservoir, where the town of Argusino used to be located. Former inhabitants and descendants gathered in this place, now occupied by the third largest reservoir in Spain.
During the event, life in Argusino was remembered, and memories of the community that had to leave their homes due to the construction of the reservoir in 1963 were shared. Entire families participated in the pilgrimage, who still preserve the tradition and attachment to their roots, despite the decades that have passed since the village's disappearance.
One of the attendees, Manuel Santos, nostalgically recalled his childhood in Argusino: "Every time we return, memories resurface, and we are moved when we contemplate this landscape that was once our home". The pilgrimage also served as a space to honor ancestors and reconnect with old friends and acquaintances, strengthening the ties that unite them despite distance and the passage of time.
In a heartfelt gesture, a floral offering was made in memory of the inhabitants of Argusino who had to say goodbye to their village, recalling their legacy and importance in the local history of Zamora. The pilgrimage was not only a moment of celebration and reunion but also an opportunity to keep alive the memory of a village that continues to beat in the hearts of those who inhabited it and in their descendants.
