Real Madrid defeated Villarreal 2-0 away from home thanks to a Kylian Mbappé double. The French striker scored one of the season's most beautiful goals, sealing the result in the 94th minute. This victory allowed the 'royal club' to temporarily take first place in Spain's La Liga.

Real Madrid tops La Liga with Mbappé's double

Real Madrid won 2-0 away to Villarreal, with a double from Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, and temporarily climbed to the top of Spain's La Liga, which is in its 21st round. After a first half without emotions at the Estadio de la Cerámica, Mbappé put Real Madrid ahead two minutes into the second half, after finding a rebound inside the area and slotting home with his left foot between the legs of the opposing goalkeeper, Brazilian Luiz Júnior. Mbappé himself was the one who sealed the game, scoring the definitive 2-0 in the 94th minute with a Panenka-style penalty. With this double, the Frenchman, who is in excellent form, reached his 21st goal this season in La Liga, where he is comfortably the top scorer, as his closest pursuer is Vedat Muriqi of Mallorca. This very good victory allowed Real Madrid to reach 51 points and thus climb to the first position in the Spanish league, although tomorrow they will be overtaken by Barcelona if the 'Blaugrana' team beats Real Oviedo. Villarreal, for its part, is in fourth place with 41 points and is beginning to say goodbye to the title fight. In the next round, Real Madrid will receive Rayo Vallecano, while Villarreal will visit Osasuna. In another of Saturday's matches, Sevilla won 2-1 at home against Athletic Bilbao and climbed to eleventh position, while their opponents missed a good opportunity to get closer to the qualifying positions for next season's European competitions. The goal scorers for Sevilla were Peque Fernández and Alor Adams, who managed to turn the story around as Bilbao had taken the lead through Robert Navarro.
