Taxi Driver Arrested for Assaulting Tourist in Spain

A 51-year-old taxi driver has been arrested in Fuengirola, Spain, on assault charges after attacking a 65-year-old Irish tourist. The incident took place on February 23, when the driver picked up two Irish passengers, believed to be intoxicated, near a hotel on the Paseo Maritimo Rey de EspaƱa promenade.

When one of the passengers began burping inside the vehicle, the driver pulled over and ordered them to get out. As the victim stepped out of the taxi, the driver punched him, causing the man to fall and hit his head on the edge of the curb.

National police and ambulance crews immediately rushed to the scene. They found the victim suffering from a nosebleed and a deep head wound. The injured tourist received initial treatment at the Las Lagunas de Mijas health center before being transferred to the Costa del Sol hospital due to the severity of his head and facial injuries. The second tourist was unharmed during the incident.

The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was detained by the police on charges of assault. He has since been released on bail.
