From today until January 6, Granada will be illuminated by almost two and a half million points of light. Among the most notable novelties is the complete decoration of Plaza del Carmen, including the luminous wrapping of 15 trees and new light curtains on the City Hall facade, as well as the complete renewal of areas such as Puerta Real, Reyes Católicos, Capuchinos, Navas, Recogidas, Gran Vía, San Juan de Dios or Ángel Ganivet. In the neighborhoods, where more than 324 light arches have been installed, balanced lighting is guaranteed that brings Christmas to all districts of the city. Granada's Christmas programming invites residents and visitors to experience Christmas in the street and enjoy attractions such as the mini Ferris wheel at Plaza Bib-Rambla, the electric sleighs, the large luminous sphere, or Santa Claus's Christmas train, in addition to the activities at the Inverland Village, the ice rink, the light nativity scene, and the performances of children's and youth choirs at various points in the center in the coming weeks. Plaza del Carmen, where the city hall is located, was packed to enjoy a show that was certainly more spectacular than in previous editions. Additionally, Plaza del Carmen offers its light and carol show daily in three sessions: 7:00 PM, 8:00 PM, and 9:00 PM. The City Hall has emphasized that the high turnout this evening confirms the success of this year's Christmas model, aimed at boosting local commerce, strengthening the cultural offering, and turning Granada into a large, lively, welcoming, and active Christmas space until the arrival of the Three Kings. This Saturday, November 29, Granada joined the select group of cities that adorn themselves and, above all, illuminate themselves to announce the start of the Christmas season. «Granada is filled with tradition, culture, music, and art; now we invite you to make this magic your own and enjoy it with family, friends, and, above all, with the little ones,» stated Marifrán Carazo. New motifs are also being unveiled in Alhóndiga, Puentezuelas, Mesones, San Jerónimo, and Avenida de García Lorca, while emblematic spaces like Plaza Nueva feature a new 16.8-meter-tall 3D fir tree. This is complemented by the opening of the Municipal Nativity Scene on December 3, the themed markets for convent sweets, crafts, and nativity scenes, the route of the Nativity Scene Contest, and key events such as the Royal Mailman, the Royal Herald, and the Three Kings' Parade. Puerta Real, the epicenter of Granada, is also now illuminated. Furthermore, Paseo del Salón incorporates laser lighting in the trees, and Paseo del Violón features a large-format luminous nativity scene. The lighting will be on from 6:30 PM to 1:00 AM in the center, extended to 3:00 AM on Fridays, Saturdays, and eves of holidays, and until 5:00 AM on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve; in the neighborhoods, it operates from 6:30 PM to 12:00 AM, extended to 1:00 AM on weekends and until 3:00 AM on the nights of December 24 and 31. To be precise, 2,458,956 points of light began to shine at 8:30 PM in an event that included carols, dance, Chinese shadows, and a visual narrative that culminated with artificial snow falling on the square. The mayor, Marifrán Carazo, pressed the on-switch button alongside children from the Límite Inteligencia association and described the night as «magical», noting that it marks the start of the most extensive, sustainable, and widespread Christmas lighting in recent years. Of these nearly two and a half million points of light, 1,413,618 illuminate the center and 1,045,338 the neighborhoods, all using low-consumption LED technology that allows for significant energy savings. The total installed power amounts to 198,148 watts, thanks to the exclusive use of LED systems and high-efficiency strips.
