Religious Funeral for Victims of Adamuz Train Crash

A religious funeral presided over by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia bid farewell this Thursday to the 45 people who lost their lives in the train crash in Adamuz, a municipality in southern Spain, on January 18. The ceremony took place in a sports pavilion in Huelva (southwest), from whose province 28 of the 45 deceased originated. More than 300 family members of the victims participated in the event, which was officiated by the Bishop of the Diocese of Huelva, Santiago Gómez Sierra, along with the President of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, Luis Javier Argüello, and the Bishop Emeritus José Vilaplana. On behalf of the central government, the First Vice President of the Government, María Jesús Montero, and the Ministers of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, and Agriculture, Luis Planas, attended. Also present were the leader of the opposition, President of the conservative People's Party (PP), Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and the President of the Junta (Regional Government) of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, along with the Mayor of Huelva, Pilar Miranda, among other authorities. This religious funeral had been called before the Government and the Junta of the autonomous community of Andalusia agreed a few days ago to postpone the state tribute planned for this Saturday due to the expressed inability of many families to attend. On behalf of the families of the deceased, Liliana Sáez spoke, assuring that they "will fight to know the truth". "That is what needs to be defined at this moment," she stated during a press conference that lasted seven hours.
