Threats Against Socialist Leader in Llanes

The Socialist Party of Llanes has reported receiving a threatening letter containing insults and death wishes against Antonio Trevín, former president of the Asturian Government and local leader of the PSOE. The letter, whose sender is anonymous, is being investigated by the PSOE of Llanes in collaboration with the Civil Guard, with the aim of identifying the author of the threats.

In the letter, phrases such as 'In Posada we keep your shroud ready', 'We hope you do not dare to enter dead into any church, it will weigh your initials', or 'may they bury you as you deserve with shovelfuls' were found. These events have generated great concern in the party and in the town, which still remembers the murder of the councilor from United Left, Javier Ardines, in August 2018.

Ardines' murder was an event that shocked public opinion and was classified as an act of violence without political motives, rather related to personal issues. Those responsible for this crime, Pedro Nieva, Jesús Muguruza, Djilali Benatia, and Maamar Kelii, were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 20 to 22 years.

Pedro Nieto, the instigator of the crime, hired Muguruza, Benatia, and Kelii as hitmen to kill Ardines. The motive for the crime was a romantic relationship that Pedro Nieva's wife had with the victim, a situation that triggered the tragic series of events. After learning about this relationship, Nieva decided to plan the murder of the IU councilor, leading to a fatal outcome that is still present in the memories of the inhabitants of Llanes.
