Search and Rescue Operations Launched in Lorca

Search and rescue operations are underway in Lorca after a man was swept away by flooding. Local authorities urge residents to take precautions during adverse weather.

Adverse weather conditions and the high water level in the stream, specifically in the areas of Los Curas and Puntas de Calnegre, are complicating the search and rescue efforts in Lorca, Murcia. A man disappeared on Sunday after being swept away by the current during a flood in the Ramonete stream. His vehicle was also swept away by the water, triggering a large emergency operation to locate him.

The City Council of Lorca has activated the Municipal Emergency Service to provide psychological support to the family of the missing person, managed by a specialized professional. The Council has called on the population to take extra precautions in stream and river areas, especially after heavy rains, and has emphasized caution regarding travel by vehicle.

A thorough search is being conducted along the riverbank of the stream and at the mouth with the help of an emergency team composed of Civil Protection and Emergencies from Lorca, local police officers, and the Civil Guard. A helicopter and a drone from the local police have also joined to strengthen the search efforts, along with a firefighting team that removed the missing man's van without finding his body inside.

During this incident, people have been urged to use main roads and highways, staying away from rivers, streams, and low-lying areas of slopes and hills, even if they have little water, and to avoid crossing flooded fords. The priority at this moment is to find the missing man and ensure the safety of citizens in areas affected by the heavy rains.
