Madrid to Sell Public Land for Development

The Urban Planning department of Madrid announced two public tenders involving 16 municipal land lots for sale, aimed at fostering economic activities and residential development. The total area offered is over 51,000 square meters. The initiative aligns with new housing laws to promote protected rentals.


The Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility area of Madrid has announced the holding of two public competitions to sell 16 lots of municipal land located in various districts of the city. In total, 51,193 square meters will be offered with 88,427 m2 of building potential to potential buyers.

The first competition includes land in Vicálvaro, Villaverde, Ciudad Lineal, Usera, Carabanchel, Villa de Vallecas, Moncloa-Aravaca, and Hortaleza. The other competition includes twelve lots intended exclusively for economic activities, distributed in Hortaleza, Moncloa-Aravaca, Villaverde, and Villa de Vallecas.

The city council's statement details that four of the plots could be converted into protected housing by the Community of Madrid, and another four could accommodate up to 450 homes. The first competition includes 14,517 square meters, with a maximum buildable area of 44,561 square meters.

The Madrid City Council will sell 17 plots that previously housed industrial facilities and offices, located in different parts of the city. A maximum of 70 points will be awarded for economic proposals exceeding the tender price, and up to 30 points for aspects related to energy efficiency and respect for urban environmental issues in building proposals.
