Unions Demand Pay Equity for Officials in Madrid

The UGT and Comisiones Obreras unions are negotiating the salary equalization of the labor staff of the General Administration of the State (AGE) with career civil servants. The disparity is evident, as the economic supplements for state workers are 30 euros, while in Madrid they amount to 43 euros, which encourages many to prefer the autonomous administration.

Elena Tarjuelo from UGT has highlighted that there is a "scandalous discrimination" between civil service staff and labor staff in the AGE. For his part, Vidal Cruzado from Comisiones Obreras has expressed the need to increase salaries to attract and retain talent in the Administration.

Although the specific request has not been specified, the unions have hinted that they are seeking a progressive equalization over the years between labor staff and civil servants. There are still 5,000 positions pending from the Public Employment Offers (OPE) of 2021 and 2022, and as many are expected for the 2023 and 2024 calls.

To address this situation, UGT and CCOO plan to denounce the current Unique Agreement and establish a new negotiating table to include salary demands. The salary difference between the AGE and other administrations, such as the Community of Madrid, makes it difficult to fill vacancies and attract technical talent.

The unions warn about the 10,000 unfilled positions in the AGE and insist on the need to close the salary gap for positions that require the same qualification. This situation makes it difficult to attract workers and enhance labor hiring in the Administration.

UGT and CCOO's main objective is to negotiate the salary equalization of labor staff with career civil servants to address the lack of technical personnel in the Administration. The next discussion is in the hands of the minister of the branch, Óscar López, who will also have to address the new Framework Agreement that will govern the next three years.
