Trapiello's New Novel Set in Historical Madrid

Andrés Trapiello presents his new novel 'They Ask Me to Return,' a love story set against the backdrop of 1945 Madrid, highlighting the city's contrasts between wealth and poverty.

The writer Andrés Trapiello presented his new novel "They Ask Me to Return" at the Library of Castilla-La Mancha, in front of a room full of followers. Trapiello commented that this work is a love story set in Madrid in 1945, in which he wished to capture the duality of the two Spains.

The main characters, Benjamín Smith and Sol Neville, are individuals marked by the war and the Republic, who share a longing for freedom and a common temperament. Benjamín, a mysterious American, returns to Madrid with a secret mission, while Sol is an independent young aristocrat. Despite coming from opposite worlds, both characters are destined to understand each other.

Trapiello revealed that the novel was conceived from the discovery of a confidential document related to a communist attack in post-war Spain. The author clarified that his work is neither political nor ideological, but rather explores the different realities experienced by the victors and the vanquished of that tumultuous period.

The author emphasized the brightness and the tone of love that permeate the plot, distancing himself from partisan approaches. Andrés Trapiello, known for works such as "The Weapons and the Letters," provided his followers with an interesting literary proposal that captures the essence of a Madrid marked by contrasts and adversities.
