Snow Expected in Madrid: Yellow Alert Activated

The State Meteorological Agency will activate a yellow alert for snow in the Community of Madrid. Accumulations of up to 20 cm are expected in higher areas this weekend.

The State Meteorological Agency will activate the yellow warning during this day due to the forecast of snow accumulation of at least 5 centimeters in certain areas of the Community of Madrid. According to Aemet, it is expected that the snow level will be between 1,300 and 1,400 meters, which could lead to the first snowfall of the year in high areas such as the Puerto de Navacerrada or Cotos.

According to experts, from Saturday to Monday, a drop in the snow level in the Spanish capital is expected, with accumulations that could vary between 5 and 20 centimeters depending on altitude. The first precipitation in the form of snow is expected on Saturday around noon, and within 24 hours, up to 10 centimeters of snow could be recorded at altitudes between 900 and 1,000 meters, which means a significant decrease in the level compared to Saturday.

In higher areas, total snow accumulation is expected to reach 20 centimeters, which could cause problems on the mountain road network. Despite the snow warning in the Community of Madrid, current forecasts indicate that the city of Madrid itself will not be significantly affected by snowfall, as the snow level will remain above 900 meters, keeping the city out of risk.

If the weather situation changes in the coming hours, it is recommended to closely follow Aemet updates. The arrival of a new storm to the Iberian Peninsula will mean a significant drop in temperatures and the arrival of precipitation in the form of snow in various areas of the country. In the Community of Madrid, a yellow warning has been issued for snow that could generate significant accumulations in certain points of the region.

On Sunday, the weather situation is expected to intensify even more, with continuous snowfall throughout the day and more considerable accumulations than the previous day. However, the intense cold and precipitation could lead to sleet or cold rain.
