More than 1900 police and emergency service staff from various subdivisions will participate in a large-scale operation to ensure safety, developed under the governmental delegation in the capital of Spain, Madrid. The aim of the operation is to ensure the safety of the 1/16 final match of the Champions League between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, which will take place at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on Tuesday. "Madrid Derby" attracts special interest due to the fierce competition between the teams both locally and at the European level. The safety operation will focus on controlling the territory around the Santiago Bernabéu stadium to prevent possible incidents. It involves rapid response police units, specialized units, regional information services of the national police, as well as Madrid municipal police officers. Also involved in these measures are fire services, medical brigades from the Red Cross, as well as staff from the security service of the club "Real Madrid". Historically, Real Madrid has an advantage in European confrontations against Atlético, defeating them in the finals of tournaments in 2014 and 2016, as well as beating them in the quarter-finals in 2015 and the final in 2017.
