The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has expressed his decision to take full paternity leave, 20 weeks, not only out of legal obligation but also out of conviction. Martínez-Almeida, who recently announced his upcoming fatherhood with his wife, Teresa Urquijo, expressed his happiness about this news during the 'Desayunos Madrid' event organized by Europa Press. The mayor highlighted that fatherhood has brought him unexpected "complete happiness."
Regarding his paternity leave, the mayor mentioned that no one is indispensable at the Madrid City Council, including himself. In response to certain comments about his decision, Martínez-Almeida said: "If one were calm, serene, and happy, they wouldn't make those comments." He also emphasized the work of his team and stressed the importance of enjoying unique moments such as the arrival of a child.
José Luis Martínez-Almeida also responded to the remarks made by the Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, who suggested that now that he will be a father, the mayor might start thinking more about his country. In this regard, Martínez-Almeida reiterated his commitment to his role at the Madrid City Council and to his responsibility as the leader of a team that does an extraordinary job.
