Madrid Celebrates 40 Years of Real Casa de Correos

The regional government of Madrid commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Real Casa de Correos as the government headquarters, highlighting its democratic significance and upcoming events.

Forty years ago, the Royal Post House became the headquarters of the Madrid regional government, a milestone that is now remembered by the regional Executive with pride and celebration. In an official statement, the historical importance of the building, its protection as a cultural interest asset, and its significance for all of Spain are highlighted.

The spokesman for the regional Government has made it clear that they reject any attempt by the central Government to link the Royal Post House with Francoism. According to him, the building has been redefined and is now considered the common home of all Madrilenians. Furthermore, it has been announced that various commemorative events will be held in the spring to mark this 40th anniversary.

Amid this celebration, the confrontation between the regional and central Governments has been rekindled. The Constitutional Court has accepted a challenge presented by the Community of Madrid, claiming invasion of powers by the central Government. In turn, the central Executive denounces the alleged legal non-compliance that they claim the Community is committing.

The Royal Post House has witnessed historic moments and important events over the years. From sporting achievements to commemorations of the Second of May, the building has been a symbol of tradition and democracy in Madrid. Although tensions between the two governments persist, the Royal Post House remains a meeting point for all opinions and events in the Spanish capital.
