The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, stated that increasing bus frequencies will not resolve mobility issues if the Ministry of Development does not honor its commitments to launch the Cercanías train stop in Rejas. The delegate for Urbanism, Environment, and Mobility, Borja Carabante, had previously positioned the central government as the main culprit for the chaos in the area. According to residents and municipal sources, the tender for the Rejas Cercanías station is scheduled for early 2026. After more than two decades of fighting for better mobility, residents of Rejas have started to see initial solutions from the competent authorities. At a meeting, the director committed to studying the extension of line 88 directly from Canillejas once the A-2's bus-VAO lane becomes operational. The Madrid City Council has also proposed extending the night bus route to make it easier for young people to get home late at night. In this context, the PSOE of San Blas also met with affected residents, resulting in a first agreement to extend line 88 of the EMT to Avenida de América.
Madrid Mayor: Mobility Won't Be Solved Without Cercanías Station in Rejas
Madrid's mayor states that bus frequency hikes won't fix mobility without the Rejas Cercanías station, as promised by the central government. Residents have fought for over two decades for transport improvements.
