They discussed the situation in Venezuela following the U.S. attack on Caracas, as well as the 'possible evolution' of events. According to sources from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to EFE, Albares held a conversation with Edmundo González, who has been residing in exile in Spain since September 2024 following the presidential elections of that year, in which he was the candidate of the main opposition coalition against Nicolás Maduro. Albares and Edmundo González also addressed the situation of Venezuelans in Spain and the Spanish colony in Venezuela. Following the U.S. bombing of Venezuelan targets, Albares also contacted the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Kaja Kallas, and the foreign ministers of Italy and Portugal, and called for respect for international law and 'de-escalation.' The minister, who is monitoring the events from the crisis cabinet at the ministry, explained that the Spanish Embassy in Caracas, the consulate, and the consular emergency unit are 'fully operational' to attend to the Spanish community, numbered at 154,767 residents. 'Your security is our priority,' Albares emphasized.
