Spanish authorities have seized 625 kilos of methamphetamine that arrived from Mexico and was disguised as a shipment of coconut oil. The operation was named "Nucífera".
After a physical inspection and sampling, the Central Customs and Special Taxes Laboratory of the Tax Agency confirmed that the contents of the containers tested positive for narcotic substances. However, agents allowed the goods to be transported and stored in the town of Arganda del Rey, where surveillance devices were set up from February 24.
As a result of the operation, five people were arrested, including a Mexican national known in drug trafficking circles as 'El Notario'. This individual was responsible for verifying that the drug transport was carried out as agreed, and he was arrested upon disembarking from a flight from Mexico.
The operation dealt a significant blow to this synthetic drug trafficking route. The investigation began on February 19, when Spanish Civil Guard and Tax Agency officials detected a suspicious shipment from Mexico at Madrid airport.
