Más Madrid Demands Resignation of Deputy Amid Abuse Allegations

Más Madrid has called for the resignation of deputy Loreto Arenillas following allegations of misconduct against Íñigo Errejón. Arenillas has since resigned, claiming victimization. The party acknowledges its insufficient response to the situation and expresses solidarity with the victims, recognizing a need for better action in the future.

The political party Más Madrid issued a statement on Friday night demanding the resignation of Loreto Arenillas, its deputy in the Assembly and former chief of staff of Íñigo Errejón. The political organization took responsibility for the consequences of this action, calling it insufficient. Despite being unaware of the reported facts, they assured that they did not have prior information similar to the current one.

Minutes after the statement was issued, Loreto Arenillas announced her resignation as deputy and her departure from the party through her personal account. She indicated that she made this decision to continue fighting against the abuses she was being subjected to, accepting Más Madrid's demand to resign from her positions.

In response, Loreto Arenillas stated that she is a victim of a campaign of lies and mentioned that Manuela Bergerot was aware of an incident involving Íñigo Errejón in June 2023, something that the political organization denied. The controversy arises amid accusations against Arenillas of pressuring victims of harassment by the Sumar politician. Más Madrid communicated that, when Arenillas refused to resign, they decided to remove her from all her positions in the party.

The Más Madrid statement expressed dismay and sadness over the revelations about Íñigo Errejón. It also detailed their actions after becoming aware of the accusations and mentioned their contact with Arenillas to offer reporting mechanisms to potential victims, without receiving a response. They acknowledged that they did not act appropriately and requested explanations from Errejón, urging his resignation.

In the text, it is highlighted that Errejón was no longer a member of Más Madrid, but his previous relationship with the party deeply affected them. Finally, the political formation reaffirmed its condemnation of acts of gender-based and sexual violence, emphatically demanding the resignation of Deputy Loreto Arenillas in light of the events that occurred.
