Rita Maestre Condemns Misogyny Amid Assault Allegations

Rita Maestre publicly declares her support for victims of aggression and condemns the misogyny shown by her former partner, Íñigo Errejón, amid allegations of sexual assault. She urges for solidarity among women and an end to impunity in such cases.

Rita Maestre, spokesperson for Más Madrid in the City Council, publicly acknowledged and thanked the support of women's networks, highlighting their importance in the fight against aggression and harassment. She encouraged other women to turn to these feminist support networks in cases of violence. Maestre mentioned the need to eliminate impunity in any situation that minimizes aggression towards women.

In an open letter, Maestre expressed her solidarity and support for victims of violence, stating her disappointment upon discovering that episodes of aggression and violent behavior occurred when the aggressor was her partner. She asserted that she was unaware of these acts and felt deceived when she uncovered them. The politician denounced the assaults and humiliations, disassociating herself from any cover-up.

Maestre advocated for eradicating macho behaviors in politics and society, regardless of the consequences, and supported the victims by encouraging others to accompany them in this process. She concluded by stating that she would continue to fight against indignity and showed her commitment to not remain silent in the face of these situations. The politician rejected speculation regarding her complicity and prior knowledge of the reported facts.

For his part, Íñigo Errejón resigned from his position after accusations of macho violence, which he attributed to patriarchy. Maestre described Errejón as someone with a normal appearance in public, but who displayed misogynistic behavior in private. She emphasized that aggressors are often people close to the victims and not unknown monsters, underlining the importance of putting an end to any form of aggression, regardless of who the aggressor or victim is.
