Investigation on Begoña Gómez and Influence Peddling

Cristina Álvarez, assistant to Begoña Gómez, is involved in a judicial investigation into corruption and influence peddling at the Complutense University of Madrid. Gómez was accused of using her position to favor private initiatives with public funds.

Cristina Álvarez, advisor to the Presidency of the Government, has been linked to the daily work in the academic activities of Begoña Gómez, wife of President Pedro Sánchez. A WhatsApp message sent by Álvarez to Juan Carlos Doadrio, Vice-Rector for Institutional Relations at the Complutense University, reveals her participation in the activities of the Extraordinary Chair of Competitive Social Transformation (TSC), which was recently canceled.

Álvarez, who works at the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Government, has been involved in the management related to the chair, being an active part of Begoña Gómez's private activities despite receiving a salary from the public sector. She has accompanied Gómez in her work at Complutense University, where she has directed the chair and co-directed two master's programs without holding the necessary official qualifications.

In emails and testimonies submitted to the judicial case, it is revealed that Álvarez has also carried out management for the chair through her personal and government email. Juan Carlos Doadrio, the vice-rector, facilitated Álvarez's contact for chair-related tasks. This situation has generated controversy, especially due to accusations of irregularities and crimes such as influence trafficking, professional intrusion, and improper appropriation associated with the project.

The appearance of key witnesses before Judge Juan Carlos Peinado has helped shed light on the situation. Juan José Güemes, president of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center at the Institute of Business, and other officials are being summoned to clarify the details of the chair and the academic programs led by Begoña Gómez. Cristina Álvarez, who has been mentioned in various emails and messages as an active part in the organization of events and management, could be called soon to clarify her role in this matter.
