The former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, was pelted with eggs by his uncle during the presentation of his new book in Madrid. Rubiales was accused of harassing footballer Jenni Hermoso (35 years old) during the ceremony to award the women's national team the World Cup. It appears he was struck on the back by an egg when a man, whom Rubiales claimed was his uncle, threw three eggs at him. Rubiales (48 years old) said: 'I found out it was my uncle, Luis Ruben... he's my age.' He added: 'He pelted me with eggs because he's a mentally unwell person, and I don't think there's any justification for it.' Rubiales attempted to chase his uncle but was stopped by other people at the presentation of his book 'The Killing of Rubiales'. Rubiales had previously been fined 10,800 euros (12,500 dollars) due to the medal-giving ceremony incident after Spain's victory in the Women's World Cup in Sydney in August 2023. The harassment scandal forced Rubiales to resign, led to a three-year ban from all football-related activities, and plunged the Federation into a long period of turmoil.
