Álvaro Arbeloa, Real Madrid coach, highly praised the performance of Brazilian forward Vinícius Junior against Monaco (6-1), in which he scored a goal and provided two assists. The coach pointed out that the hug his player gave him to celebrate his goal was for “all of madridismo” and “all the people who have supported him” in difficult times.
“We saw a Vinícius who, when he is like this, is unstoppable, the most unbalancing player on the pitch. It was up to us to turn things around and we did it,” continued Arbeloa.
“He is a very important player. He deserves the hug of all his teammates and the ovation of the Bernabéu. It was a hug to all the people who have supported him. It is not easy for all of us who have been in there, but the Bernabéu crowd is fair and it has been seen today, rewarding the players' effort, the goals and the sacrifice. We need him, very happy for him. This is a 'Vini' who needs to feel loved by the fans. I need him happy, focused on his game. They had a great game with the ball. There has been an enormous effort. Fede and Camavinga out of their natural positions... as a coach it makes me happy that they put the team's interests above personal ones,” explained Arbeloa.
“It has been a perfect night for all of madridismo,” he said at a press conference. “I have seen the public giving themselves over to Vinícius, supporting him and creating for him. That hug was for all of madridismo. I ask him to enjoy it because he has my full confidence to show his football and bring out all the magic he has,” he added.
A Vinícius who, after being the most booed by his fans on Saturday, redeemed himself this Tuesday with his performance against Monaco.
