French forward Kylian Mbappé returned to Madrid yesterday and began his personal countdown to his return to the pitch, with the aim of playing in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Manchester City on Wednesday, depending on how his left knee feels.
Mbappé has completed part of his recovery in Paris, where he visited a knee injury specialist, the French doctor Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet.
His diagnosis corroborated that of Real Madrid, which published a medical report last Monday again stating that the forward suffers from a "sprain in his left knee".
Forced to stop due to the pain of an injury that occurred on December 7th and from which he did not recover well after missing isolated matches, Mbappé has missed the last three Real Madrid matches against Benfica, Getafe, and Celta de Vigo.
His goal has always been focused on March 11th, the day of the first European duel against City at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
