Mother of politician accused of harassment claims party knew for a year

The mother of one of six women accusing Lugo council president José Tomé of harassment claims the party knew since October. She details how the politician allegedly offered her daughter a job in exchange for sexual favors.

The mother of one of the six women who have accused José Tomé, president of the Provincial Council of Lugo and mayor of Monforte de Lemos, of alleged sexual harassment, has stated that the party knew about these alleged behaviors of the Lucense politician since October last year. In an interview on the 'Código 10' program on Cuatro, this woman, who also works for the party, explained that her daughter was 'the last victim of Tomé' and that in her case, they have known since October. She wrote on October 1st to the leader of the Galician socialists, José Ramón Gómez Besteiro, to tell him she needed to speak with him 'urgently'. 'He never called me,' she laments. She also knocked on the door of Pilar García, Secretary of Organization for PSOE in Lugo, and managed to get a meeting 'after insisting for several days'. She wanted to explain that her daughter had been a victim of Tomé and that the only way for the party to apply its protocols would be with a formal complaint. During the meeting, the Secretary of Organization said she would speak with the Secretary General of the PSdeG and then let her know something. According to the victim's mother, Besteiro said he understood her, that it was a very serious matter, and that he would talk to Tomé. However, according to her version, Besteiro later asked: 'But what do you want, for us to make Tomé resign?'. In another conversation, according to her version, Tomé offered her daughter: 'If you want to work at the Monforte City Council, get a position, you have to sleep with me'. To this proposal, her daughter was 'stunned'. The mother also recounted that Tomé told her daughter: 'Why study so much, if I can get you the job another way'. But Tomé ended up responding that he 'could not do anything' because his daughter was denying the facts. And the victim's mother replied: 'I am not saying anything, you have to say that yourselves'.
