Violent Rain and Hailstorm in Málaga Province Triggers Emergency Plan Activation

In the afternoon, the meteorological body raised the alert level and activated an orange warning for rain from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, warning of a significant risk from precipitation of up to 30 liters per square meter in just one hour. Meteorological authorities also noted that while the rain would tend to lose intensity over time, the system would move eastward, maintaining locally intense focal points, which required constant monitoring of the evolution of the storm. On the same day, Aemet activated a yellow warning for rain in other Andalusian provinces, including the east of Almería and the coast of Granada, which reinforces the scenario of instability affecting southern Spain during these Christmas holidays. Andalusian authorities indicated that the PERI would remain active as long as risk conditions persist, and they did not rule out adopting additional measures if the volume of precipitation exceeds the established thresholds. From 4:00 PM, the 112 service attended about ten incidents directly related to rain and hail, mostly in the Rincón de la Victoria and Vélez-Málaga areas. Severe precipitation was also recorded in towns in the interior of the region, such as Almáchar and El Borge, where hail complicated traffic and caused localized flooding. According to the State Meteorological Agency, the forecast for this Wednesday included isolated thunderstorms until 6:00 PM and a marked drop in temperatures, with readings below ten degrees in some parts of the Axarquía region.
