Agents of the Local Police of Paracuellos de Jarama and the Civil Guard arrested three people last week, accused of stealing crosses and other elements from the graves and tombstones of the cemetery located on Calle de la Paz. Among the detainees is a couple residing in Paracuellos, who were already suspected of the thefts, and a local scrap dealer accused of receiving stolen goods.
The theft of around fifteen crosses occurred on three different occasions, two of them this summer and the last just two weeks ago. Thanks to police investigations, 14 criminal acts have been clarified and 10 crucifixes have been recovered, which will be returned to their owners before the All Saints' Day holiday.
A spokesperson for the Civil Guard reported that the last tip leading to the arrests was provided by a neighbor who saw two individuals hurriedly leaving the cemetery carrying a bag, which they loaded into a van whose license plate was recorded. After receiving the alert, the Local Police went to the scene to confirm the damages and the missing items.
