María Pulido Nominated for Goya Award | Ours Abroad News

María Pulido from Pozoblanco is a candidate for a Goya Award for Best Animated Film for 'Maripsas negras', highlighting climate change impacts through animation.

Art director and screenwriter Maria Pulido, originally from Pozoblanco, is one of the candidates for a Goya award in the category of Best Animated Film thanks to her movie "Black Butterflies," which powerfully addresses the impact of climate change. The plot focuses on the experiences of Tanit, Valeria, and Shaila, three women from different corners of the world who, despite their disparate origins, share the loss of everything due to the effects of global warming, being forced to migrate.

Maria Pulido, with extensive experience in the artistic field, has distinguished herself through her watercolor work, which has naturally led her to the world of animation. Among her previous achievements is winning the first edition of the Buñuel Challenge with her short film "Ámome" in 2017, where she masterfully combined live action with animation. Her career includes collaborations on recognized productions such as "The Wawies" (Imagic TV), "Climate Refugees" (Tinglado Films), "I'm a Tomb" (Khris Cembe), among others.

The screening of "Black Butterflies" at the Municipal Posito Cinema in Pozoblanco is scheduled for Friday, January 31, at 7:30 PM, according to the local City Council. Pulido's work stands out for its ability to narrate the stories of characters who struggle to survive even when their place of origin is no longer habitable. Maria Pulido graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Granada and completed her training with a Master's in Animation from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, where she produced and directed her first short film "Bottle Battle" in 2015.
