The College of Physicians of Ciudad Real has condemned «in the strongest possible terms» the attack suffered yesterday, Monday, by a doctor from the Emergency Services of Puertollano, an act which it describes as «brutal and savage». The College details that when the victim was helpless on the floor, the man tried to drag her to a cleaning room, but was subdued thanks to the joint intervention of security personnel, health workers, and patients' relatives alerted by cries for help. The collegiate institution has expressed to the doctor its «support, closeness, and solidarity, as well as the wish for a speedy physical and emotional recovery». No professional should go to work in fear, nor accept as part of their job violent behavior, threats, or intimidations,» the institution states. Lastly, the College of Physicians points out that «the brutal attack yesterday evidences the urgency of fully implementing the measures recently announced by the Ministry of Health to combat aggression against health personnel and to reinforce prevention in all care settings». Additionally, the figure of the Director of Security for Sescam will be created. The College reminds of the importance that, in the event of any aggression, the professional request an injury report and file the corresponding complaint, steps it considers essential to activate legal protection. The events took place in the afternoon of the 8th, when a 46-year-old man in the observation room «exhibited erratic behavior that suddenly escalated into an aggressive attitude towards all present personnel», including doctors, patients' relatives, and security staff. In his escape, the aggressor entered the private area of the Emergency Department, where he encountered the head of the area and «attacked her brutally, hitting her, throwing her to the floor, kicking and punching her, and causing a traumatic brain injury and a contused wound that required suturing». The alleged perpetrator fled the hospital through an emergency exit, but was subsequently arrested by the National Police, who, after passing through police stations, transferred him to a psychiatric center. «This aggression is absolutely intolerable. In this case, both procedures have been carried out correctly».
