Buenos Aires, December 12 (NA) -- Girona defeated Real Sociedad 2-1 in the match played today at the Reale Arena stadium, for the 16th matchday of LaLiga, the top tier of Spanish football.
According to the Argentine News Agency, the home side took the lead with a goal from forward Gonçalo Guedes, although a brace from Ukrainian attacker Viktor Tsygankov allowed the visitors to stage a comeback.
With a crucial win for their survival hopes, Girona moved up to 17th place with 15 points, while Real Sociedad sits in 14th place with one more point.
The first chance of the game fell to the visiting team in the 20th minute of the first half, with a curling effort from the right by Tsygankov that was saved by goalkeeper Álex Remiro.
The first goal of the game came in the 34th minute, with a through-ball that put Guedes one-on-one with Argentine goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, who failed to narrow the angle and couldn't keep out a central, mid-height shot.
The red-and-white team equalized in the 30th minute of the second half, with Tsygankov volleying in a cross from the left, and it was the Ukrainian himself who turned the scoreboard around eight minutes later, tapping in a low cross from left-back Álex Moreno.
