O Son do Camiño Festival Emerges as Cultural Icon

The O Son do Camiño festival in Santiago de Compostela has become a key cultural event, attracting 135,000 attendees in 2023 and generating significant economic impact for Galicia.


The O Son do Camiño festival has established itself as the main cultural event of the Galician Community, surpassing others like Culturgal or Resurrection Fest. Festivals represent 28.2% of the total weight in the cultural scene, being prominent dates in the calendar of thousands who plan their attendance in advance to secure a place.

In addition to O Son do Camiño, other festivals like the International Festival of Celta World, Resurrection Fest, PortAmérica, Sinsal, Festival da Luz, Revenidas, or the Pardiñas Festival of Guitiriz have also stood out for their importance in the Galician cultural scene.

The cultural significance of Manuel Rivas, Culturgal, Fillas de Cassandra, and the celebration of the Day of Galician Letters have also been highlighted in the conducted survey. Regarding the performing arts, figures like Xosé Antonio Touriñán and Carlos Blanco with their show 'Somos criminais' occupy a prominent place in the cultural scene.

In the literary realm, books and literature rank second in mentions, with events like the Children and Youth Book Fair of Pontevedra and the editorial work of Kalandraka gaining recognition. On the other hand, audiovisual media ranks third in the most notable mentions for 2024, with its poster and parallel activities attracting a broad audience.

The O Son do Camiño festival has achieved significant support, becoming a cultural benchmark of the year with 12.7% of the votes. This event, held between May and June in Santiago de Compostela, has set attendance records, attracting thousands of people from 35 different countries in its latest edition.

In economic terms, it is estimated that each edition of the festival generates around a thousand direct jobs and up to 4,000 indirect ones, with an economic return for Galicia that could reach 90 million euros. By sectors, the barometer highlights the good moment of the music sector, which has generated the most response in this edition, thus reflecting the positive impact of the cultural scene in the region.
