Argentine forward Mateo Pellegrino, currently an attacker for Italian Parma with a past at Vélez, Estudiantes, and Platense, could be called up to the Spanish national team. According to the Argentine News Agency, the 24-year-old player, who was born in Valencia, has the strong interest of Spain's coach Luis de la Fuente. The player, son of Lanús coach Mauricio Pellegrino, arrived at Parma in February of this year for two million euros for 50% of his pass, and is having a good run in Italian football, with 10 goals and an assist in 27 matches. With difficulties in finding center-forwards with height and offensive weight who are at a good level, Luis de la Fuente has set his sights on Parma attacker Mateo Pellegrino. His call-up to the Iberian combination would be likely because the Parma forward was born in Valencia in 2001, due to his father's spell at the club, where he remained from 1999 to 2004. Despite being born in the European country, the attacker lived in Argentina from the age of seven and, in 2018, joined the lower divisions of Vélez. In conflict with the club, the Parma offer left both parties happy and meant the return of the attacker to his native continent. Pellegrino arrived at the Italian club in the middle of the 2024/2025 season, but that did not prevent him from closing the tournament as a starter, in a poor campaign for the black and white team, with three goals in 13 matches. Settled as an undisputed starter, the attacker again had good scoring numbers in the current season, with seven goals in 14 appearances, and could be called up to the Spanish national team, which is beginning the management to convince him. After being part of the 2023 League Cup in which Platense was runner-up, alternating starts and substitutions and with only one goal, the 2024 season for the forward was a consecration: he finally earned his place in the first team and scored 15 goals, in the 40 matches he played that year. Thus, Pellegrino returned to Vélez with the promise of being considered for the first team and entered from the bench in the first match since his return, although he wanted to be a starter or, in any case, sold abroad. His debut in the Vélez team came three years later, in a match against Banfield, although he would not have continuity, with only 13 matches, and being a substitute in 12 of them, until he was loaned to Estudiantes. Upon his arrival at "Pincha" he was initially considered as a replacement but was a starter only on three occasions, he began to lose his place and was no longer called up, so his 18-month loan was cut short just after a year, for the attacker to be loaned again, this time to Platense. It was at "Calamar" where Pellegrino could begin to show his worth.
