Valladolid and Palencia have been named 'European City of Sport 2026' by ACES Europe in Brussels. Valladolid hosted over 140 regional, national, and international events in 2025, including the Premier Pádel P2, the King's Cup Rugby Final, and the Vuelta a España time trial. The city's sports infrastructure includes 26 municipal sports centers, the José Zorrilla stadium, and extensive facilities serving over 60,000 users. Mayor Mayte Martínez highlighted the recognition as a source of pride and a driver for international projection and economic growth. Palencia's mayor, Miriam Andrés, emphasized the collective nature of the achievement, stating that sport is a path to a better future. Councilor Orlando Castro noted the distinction will bring benefits not only in sports but also socially, for tourism, and for the economy.
