Analysis of mayors' salaries in Aragon. Natalia Chueca, mayor of Zaragoza, tops the list with an annual income of 88,929 euros. The article also examines the salaries of other high-ranking municipal officials.

The mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca, receives an annual remuneration of 88,929 euros, as reported by the 'Information on Salaries of Public Administration Positions' portal. The second position in Aragon is held by Elena Lacalle, also from the People's Party (PP), who serves as the mayor of Cuarte de Huerva. For her work leading the city council of this Zaragoza municipality, with a population of just over 15,000, the PP politician receives an annual salary of 59,232 euros. The top 5 highest-paid mayors in Aragon are completed by Carlos Serrano (PP), mayor of Jaca, with a salary of 52,399 euros; Berta Fernández (PSOE), mayor of Sabiñánigo, with 51,885 euros; and Lorena Orduna (PP), mayor of Huesca, with 51,346 euros. As might be expected, the highest-paid mayor in Aragon is Natalia Chueca, the mayor of Zaragoza, from the People's Party (PP). In second place is Juan María Aburto, the mayor of Bilbao, with 105,557 euros, while the third position is held by Jaume Collboni, the mayor of Barcelona, with 104,000 euros. However, not all mayors in Spain earn these figures, above 100,000 euros annually. The mayor's salary also depends on the municipality in which they were elected, as well as their dedication to the position, whether it is full-time, part-time, or without full dedication. In this context, the mayor with the highest compensation in 2024 was the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida, with 110,688 euros. Surprisingly, outside the Aragon ranking is Emma Buj (PP), the mayor of Teruel. All of them, in addition, are fully dedicated to politics. Chueca, a graduate in Business Administration and Management, is fully dedicated to her work as mayor of a municipality with over 727,000 inhabitants. The politician has been at the head of the Aragonese capital's city council since 2023, succeeding her fellow party member Jorge Azcón, the current president of the community, after winning the municipal elections. Last Tuesday, the Ministry for the Digital Transformation and Public Function updated the remunerations corresponding to elected officials and public employees of Spain's Local Entities. Within the 'Information on Salaries of Public Administration Positions' (ISPA) data, the corresponding information for the 8,129 city councils can be consulted, also including the salaries of mayors and councilors. The information shows the amount they received for holding their office in 2024.
