Netflix has decided not to produce a second season of its Spanish series 'Billionaires' Lair', despite its relative success. The show recorded 152 million viewing hours and 20.7 million completed views, topping global streaming charts after its premiere. The series, created by Álex Pina, the mind behind 'Money Heist', tells the story of a group of billionaires hiding in an underground shelter known as 'Chimera Underground Park' to protect themselves from a potential nuclear war. While critics described the series as suitable for fans of suspenseful thrillers, it did not receive critical acclaim, scoring a low 33% on Rotten Tomatoes. According to the Spanish newspaper El País, production crews in Spain have already begun dismantling the sets, describing the project as one of 'the most expensive and ambitious for Netflix Spain'. Many viewers expressed their frustration at the series being cancelled without completing the story, arguing that dramatic works need a clear ending. One follower wrote: 'Part of the series' struggle is due to the lack of a defined ending. It's better to tell the whole story in a known number of episodes, and if it's successful, then additional seasons can be offered'.
