Brizuela was captured by the Quintana Roo Prosecutor's Office in a case for alleged extortion and attempted femicide, but his name far exceeds this local file: various journalistic investigations have long pointed to him as an operator with business, political, and sanitary connections that link Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Spain along the same route of suspicious operations that ultimately cornered José Luis Ábalos, Koldo García, and Víctor de Aldama. The most delicate point for the PSOE is not, for now, that there is a direct Spanish judicial accusation against Brizuela, but that his corporate structure appears on the periphery of the case that is on the verge of a trial in Madrid. In turn, Diario Libre described Pronalab and other Dominican companies as allegedly key pieces of the money laundering scheme under investigation. The Supreme Court confirmed that it will judge Ábalos, Koldo García, and Aldama starting April 7 for the alleged plot of irregular mask contracts during the pandemic.
