FIFA has confirmed that the first Women's Club World Cup will take place in 2028, and that the competition will be repeated every four years, featuring a competitive and inclusive format. This tournament will include the top 19 clubs in the world, unlike the men's tournament which has 32 teams competing for glory.
The tournament will consist of a play-in phase, where six clubs will participate and the three winners will join 13 other clubs in the next stage. This phase will feature four groups of four teams each. Regarding the slots, AFC, CAF, Concacaf, and CONMEBOL will each have two direct slots and one play-in slot. UEFA will have the largest representation, with five direct slots and one play-in. Finally, OFC will have only one play-in slot.
Additionally, the creation of the Champions Cup was approved starting in 2026, in which the six winners of club competitions from different confederations will compete for a world title in the years when the Club World Cup is not held. In the preliminary round, the AFC champion will host the OFC champion in the first round, and the winner will visit the CAF champion in the second round. The winners will advance to the semifinals to face the UEFA champion, while the CONCACAF champion will play against the CONMEBOL champion.
Finally, the Final Four will take place from January 28, 2026, to February 1, 2026, where the semifinals, the third-place match, and the final of the tournament will be held.
