Alcaras Withdraws From Davis Cup Final Due to Injury

World number one Carlos Alcaras of Spain announced on Tuesday his withdrawal from the Davis Cup final in Bologna due to a right leg injury. Alcaras's withdrawal comes just two days before his country's anticipated quarterfinal match against the Czech Republic. Alcaras wrote on his X account: "I'm very sorry to announce that I will not be able to play," explaining that he is suffering from "swelling in the right leg" sustained during the ATP Finals final against his traditional rival, Italian Jannik Sinner, on Sunday. A statement from the Spanish Tennis Federation said Alcaras joined his teammates in Bologna on Monday, where he underwent medical examinations that revealed "severe muscle strain with significant swelling of the right knee tendon." The Spanish Federation clarified that Alcaras, who ended 2025 with eight titles, including two at Grand Slams, "will return to Spain as of Tuesday." Alcaras's absence is another blow to Davis Cup organizers, following the withdrawals of Italy's top two players, second-ranked Jannik Sinner and eighth-ranked Lorenzo Musetti, in the first edition of the tournament held on Italian soil after being held in Malaga for several years. German Alexander Zverev, ranked third, is now the only player from the top 10 remaining in the competition.
