The Spanish Observatory of Racism and Xenophobia (Oberax) issued a report to measure manifestations of hatred and their consequences, by monitoring how social media platforms operate in Spain. Marca newspaper reported that the report stated that Barcelona player Lamine Yamal received over 60% of insults via social media. Oberax director Tomás Fernández said he noticed certain terms that insult the player, referring to his skin color or family origins, and that this serves as a motive for his haters to judge him. Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. ranks second, with 29% of the insults, followed by his teammate Kylian Mbappé at 3%. Other players like Nico Williams, his brother Iñaki, and Ibrahim Díaz are at 2%. However, the study also indicated that the issue was not limited to players only but also extended to the different teams in the Spanish league. Real Madrid ranks first with 34%, followed by its traditional rival Barcelona with 32%. In a major surprise, Valladolid received 17%, followed by Valencia with 8%, Athletic Bilbao with 6%, Real Sociedad with 5%, and Atlético Madrid with 4%.
