Lamine Yamal, Barcelona star, revealed in an interview on the American CBS program '60 Minutes' that representing the Moroccan national team was not something far from his mind. However, he chose the Spanish national team due to his desire to play in the European Championship. Yamal, born in Spain to a Moroccan father and an Equatorial Guinean mother, stated: 'With all my love and respect for Morocco, I always wanted to play for a European team, as European football is watched more and is closer to the international level.' He added: 'I will always hold a special place for Morocco in my heart as it is also my country. The truth is, it would not have been strange or bad if I had played with them, but Spain was playing in the European Championship, I was raised in Spain and I also feel that it is my country.'
