The Spanish midfielder of Barcelona, Aitana Bonmatí, has been awarded the Ballon d'Or for the second consecutive time, an award that recognizes the best player of the past season. With this achievement, Aitana equals her teammate Alexia Putellas, both with two trophies, as the most awarded female footballers in the history of this award.
The award ceremony took place at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, where the 26-year-old Catalan footballer received the award granted by France Football magazine in collaboration with UEFA. This is the fourth consecutive Ballon d'Or for Spanish women's football, resulting from the dominance of both her club and the national team.
During the past season, Aitana Bonmatí led the Blaugrana team with 26 goals and 18 assists, contributing to the conquest of the Champions League, Liga F, Copa de la Reina, and Supercopa de España. In addition, she also won the Nations League title with the Spanish national team and achieved fourth place in the Paris Olympic Games.
Regarding previous winners, the Ballon d'Or in previous years was won by Ada Hegerberg from Norway in 2018 and Megan Rapinoe from the U.S. in 2019.
