Severe Flooding Hits Ávila Causing Havoc

Residents of Ávila face significant flooding due to the overflowing Adaja River. Local authorities are urging caution as evacuations and traffic diversions continue. Many homes and businesses have been severely impacted by the floods, with community members expressing anger over the lack of timely support.

In the locality, residents were surprised by the sudden rise of the Adaja River, which led the Local Police to cordon off the area while the water began to flood streets, garages, and shops. Francisco, a resident of the area, mentioned that both the firefighters and Civil Protection took time to arrive, which generated concern among the inhabitants.

In response to the emergency, the Local Police mobilized, asking residents like Francisco to remove their vehicles from areas near the river. As the water level rose, the collaboration among neighbors became evident, with everyone working together to minimize property damage.

Residents' concern was palpable, with Francisco pointing out the lack of timely response and the general neglect of the neighborhood in emergency situations. Another affected individual, Alejandra, mourned the loss of her urban garden and everything she had cultivated over two years.

The rise of the Adaja River not only affected this particular area but also extended to other nearby areas, reminding residents of similar events that occurred in previous decades. Flooding from rivers like the Eresma and others in the Duero basin kept authorities and the local population on alert.

The Duero Hydrographic Confederation issued warnings about the hydrological situation in the region, highlighting the need for extreme caution in areas near rivers like the Duratón. Despite the adverse weather conditions, it is expected that the flows will gradually stabilize in the coming hours, providing some relief to residents.

Amid the desolation and indignation of those affected, solidarity among neighbors and warnings from authorities became key to facing the consequences of the floods. As the community recovers from the damage caused by the overflow of the Adaja River, it is hoped that the situation will stabilize and allow for recovery efforts to begin in the affected areas.
